Xiaomi's boss, Lei Jun, wants the company to be one of the world's top five carmakers in the next 15 to 20 years. They've started making a car called the SU7 in their factory in Beijing. This car can have really powerful batteries, up to 150kWh. Also, it's very aerodynamic, meaning it can move through the air easily with a drag coefficient of just 0.195. And it's competing with other fancy cars like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.
➥ Xiaomi SU7 Range & Battery
- Battery - 101 KWh / 132 KWh / 150 KWh Lithium-ion Battery
- Range - 800 Km / 998 Km / 1200 Km
The first models will have a big battery made by CATL, a company. It's a 101kWh lithium-ion battery. It's put inside the car and has 14 layers of protection. This battery can make the car go up to 800km on a test. The person talking also mentioned that the car can charge really fast.
👉 An electric car is really better, not a trade-off
If you charge it for 5 minutes, you can get up to 220km of range. And if you charge it for 15 minutes, you can go up to 510km. Also, Xiaomi, a tech company, made a bigger battery, which is 132kWh. With this battery, the car can go up to 998km. They also said that the car's design can fit an even bigger battery, which is 150kWh. With this big battery, the car can go up to 1,200km.
➥ Xiaomi SU7 Design & Styling
- Height - 1440 mm
- Length - 4997 mm
- Width - 1963 mm
The design of the SU7 was made by Xiaomi's own team, led by Sawyer Li. Li had previously worked on designing cars like the BMW iX and Circular Vision Concept while he was at BMW for five years.
The SU7 is 4,997mm long, 1,963mm wide, and 1,440mm tall. This makes it slightly longer, narrower, and taller than the Porsche Taycan. It also has a longer wheelbase, measuring 3,000mm compared to the Taycan's.
👉 The issue with battery-electric cars
Its smooth design helps it achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.195, which is very good for aerodynamics. Xiaomi also says the SU7 is very structurally strong. However, Xiaomi hasn't shown the inside of the SU7 yet.
➥ Xiaomi SU7 Interior
The new interior design of the SU7 has been unveiled, and it includes physical buttons, which is a surprise for many. Xiaomi listened to feedback from EV owners who often complained about the lack of buttons or haptic-feedback switches. This shows that taking time to develop a product can lead to better results.
The interior features a flat-bottomed steering wheel with tactile switches and controllers on each side, a horizontal center screen like Tesla vehicles, and a center console design reminiscent of Nio and XPeng. There are toggle switches under the driver's hand for air conditioning, ride height, and rear wing spoiler adjustment, along with a Start/Stop button.
The instrument cluster behind the steering wheel has a 56” HUD displaying important information for the driver. The layout creates a comfortable and enclosed feeling for the driver and front passenger. The car's design emphasizes visibility and attention to detail, with low windshields and pronounced front fenders.
👉 BYD Seal review 2024
The SU7 is designed as a driver’s car, with sports seats and a low sitting position. Inside the car, it's all about making driving fun, like sports cars such as the Porsche Taycan. Xiaomi made a video showing the car being tested in snowy places in northern China. This is the first time they've officially advertised the SU7.
➥ Xiaomi SU7 Infotainment
The inside of the Xiaomi SU7 looks very modern and cool. It has lots of buttons on the dashboard. The design is simple and stylish, with two colors used inside. The middle part where the buttons are is very clean and neat. Also, it has a big roof window.
One cool thing inside the Xiaomi SU7 is a big screen that looks like a computer monitor. You can use it to control stuff in the car, like navigation and music. Underneath the screen, there's a spot to charge your phone wirelessly, and it charges super fast! There are also buttons for important things like air conditioning and a place to put your drink.
If you're sitting in the back, you get your own screens to watch stuff, separate from the big screen in the front.

The Xiaomi SU7 is a four-door electric car. It's about 5 meters long, 2 meters wide, and can be up to 1.5 meters tall. The distance between the front and back wheels is 3 meters. There will be two versions of the SU7, depending on how much energy its battery can store. And there might be more versions later with different power options.
➥ Xiaomi SU7 Performance & Engines
- Electric System - 400 & 800 Volt
- Car Engines - V6, V6s, V8s
- V6 Torque - 400 Nm with 400 Volt System
- V6s Torque - 100 Nm with 8add00 Volt System
- V6 & V6s Speed run - 21000 RPM
- V6 & V6s Acceleration - 0-100 Kph in 2.78 Seconds
- V8s Torque - 634 Nm
- V8s Speed run - 27200 RPM
Xiaomi's first electric car is built on a new platform called Modena. This platform can work with both 400-volt and 800-volt electric systems, as well as single- and dual-motor setups.
The car, named SU7, uses electric motors developed by Xiaomi. They're named like traditional car engines: V6, V6s, and V8s. The base V6 version produces 299hp and 400Nm of torque, and it's used with the 400-volt system. The V6s, designed for the 800-volt system, add 75hp and 100Nm of torque to the base V6. Both can run at speeds up to 21,000rpm.
The dual-motor SU7, combining the V6 and V6s, has a total power of 673hp and accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 2.78 seconds. Expected in 2025, the V8s, also known as 'HyperEngine,' claims to produce up to 679hp and 634Nm of torque, working on the 800-volt system. It can reach speeds of up to 27,200rpm.
➥ Xiaomi SU7 Aerodynamics and Handling
The car has special suspension and dampers to make the ride smooth. It also has a special grille and wing that can be changed to make the car more aerodynamic. The car is designed to have very little air resistance, which means it can go farther on one charge and use less energy. This low air resistance also means the car can go faster without needing more power, which could make it accelerate and handle better.
➥ Xiaomi SU7 Pilot Autonomous Driving
Xiaomi is a big technology company that's really good at smart software. They're combining cars and electronic devices to make clever systems for people to use. In autonomous driving, Xiaomi is pioneering three main technologies:
- Adaptive BEV
- Road-Mapping Foundational Model
- Super-Res Occupancy Network.
Adaptive BEV - Technology changes how it sees things when driving in different places, so it can see better in cities, see further when driving fast, and park more accurately. It uses a detailed grid to see objects from close up to far away.
The Road-Mapping Foundational Model - figures out what the road is like as you drive and can handle tricky intersections without needing lots of maps. It learns from different situations and how drivers drive, making driving smoother.
Super-Res Occupancy Network - Technology recognizes various irregular obstacles with high accuracy, representing objects as continuous surfaces rather than blocks. This reduces recognition errors, even in challenging weather conditions like rain or snow.

Xiaomi has also developed the world's first "End-to-End Sensing and Decision-Making AI Model" for automated parking. This helps in parking in tricky spots, such as those with elevators.
Their equipment is really good. It has strong NVIDIA chips and many sensors like LiDAR, cameras, and radars. Xiaomi wants to be the best in self-driving car technology by 2024.
➥ Xiaomi SU7 Hyper Die-Casting
Xiaomi has created a new technology called Xiaomi Hyper Die-Casting T9100 and a special metal called Xiaomi Titans Metal. They're the only company in China working on both making big metal parts and developing special metals for cars.
The Xiaomi Hyper Die-Casting T9100 is really big, covering an area as big as 840 square meters. It's super strong, weighing 1050 tons, and can press really hard with a force of 9100 tons. Xiaomi also made a smart system to check the quality of each piece really quickly, much faster than doing it by hand.
This new tech helps Xiaomi make electric cars better. They can now combine lots of parts into one, reducing the number of welds by 840, making the car lighter by 17%, and making production faster by 45%.
Xiaomi also made a special metal called Xiaomi Titans Metal. It's really strong and tough because it's treated with heat. They used a smart computer system to find the best mix of materials out of millions of possibilities.
While other companies focus on how strong their machines are for pressing metal, Xiaomi is working on everything from making new materials to using them to build car parts.
